It's all in the mind by Hello Giggles
Reports from new research at the Journal of Neuroscience has discovered thinking that you're over your break up could be the key to actually getting over it. University of Colorado Boulder researchers studied 40 participants who has just been dumped and brought along a photo of their ex and a friend of the same gender.
They were then asked to talk through their break up, according to UPROXX, while scientists kept an eye on an image of their brain. Then when participants took a break, half were told they were being given a nasal spray to numb their emotional pain (and the other half were told it was just a saline spray).
The Results: those who had been told the spray would wash their woes away went on to feel much less emotional, their brain reacted differently when they spoke about their broken relationship, and they found it easier to deal with the pain.
So what does this teach us? The scientists said just thinking you're doing something that could help ease the pain, does actually ease the pain. It's all in the mind. Basically, do stuff that you think will make you feel better, and it probably will.
