You know, we all have different strengths. By Radhika Menon
Lana Condor might be known for her shy, introspective character Lara Jean in Netflix’s runaway hit movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but soon enough we’ll be seeing her kick butt in a very un-shy way.
Lana is set to star in the new Syfy show Deadly Class, playing a very different type of high schooler named Saya Kuroki. At New York ComicCon this past weekend, Lana suggested that Saya, who attends a school for assassins, and Lara Jean would be very out of place in each others’ worlds.
“Saya would not survive at a normal high school and Lara Jean would not survive at Kings Dominion,” Lana admitted per Just Jared Jr., when she was joined on the NYCC panel by some of her costars.
We can’t help but agree — it’s hard to imagine the soft-spoken, vintage-clothes-wearing Lara Jean making a name for herself amidst a bunch of cutthroat, dangerous teen killers (unless one of them was Peter Kavinsky ex and mean popular girl Gen). After all, the girl would rather stay in and bake cupcakes by herself on a Saturday night than go to a party with her “fake” boyfriend.
And from what we’ve seen of Saya so far, it doesn’t look like she’d be at home in a regular school. Saya will sport an edgy short hair crop, tattoos and copious amounts of leather, while, oh yeah, casually training to become an assassin. We can’t exactly imagine her walking the halls of our high school, but have to admit we are intrigued by this Freaky Friday-esque prospect.
It’s safe to say that Lara Jean and Saya are complete opposites, and we can’t wait to see how Lana brings Saya to life when Deadly Class premieres in 2019. Until then, we’ll keep thinking about that potential crossover.
